Black Women Surviving Survivorship

A #1 Amazon Bestselling Anthology

Black Women Surviving Survivorship: Our Stories. Our Strength. Our Survival Through Cancer is a nationally ranked #1 Amazon bestselling anthology that centers the lived experiences of Black women navigating life during and beyond cancer treatment.

Created under the leadership of Tara Tucker and Tucker Publishing House, this collaborative project amplifies voices that are often underrepresented in mainstream survivorship narratives.

This is more than a book. It is a declaration.

Why This Project Was Necessary

Black women are surviving cancer — but too often, we are surviving it quietly.

According to the American Cancer Society, Black women face significantly higher mortality rates in breast cancer despite lower incidence rates. Beyond statistics, there are lived realities:

  • Delayed diagnoses

  • Dismissed symptoms

  • Medical bias

  • Emotional and financial strain

  • Identity shifts after treatment

  • Fear of recurrence

This anthology was created to document those realities — and to ensure they are no longer overlooked..

What Makes This Anthology Different

Rather than focusing solely on diagnosis and treatment, Black Women Surviving Survivorship explores what happens after the bell rings.

These stories address:

  • Advocacy in medical spaces

  • Faith and resilience

  • Body image and identity after surgery

  • Lymphedema and long-term side effects

  • Emotional healing and mental health

  • Rebuilding life after treatment

Thirteen courageous women share their journeys with honesty, strength, and vulnerability — preserving testimony for future generations.

A Living Legacy

During the creation of this project, two contributing authors passed away. Their chapters remain part of this anthology, serving as enduring tributes to their courage and impact.

Their voices continue to speak.

Their stories continue to matter.

Community Impact

This project extends beyond publishing.

A portion of campaign proceeds supports survivor resources through Taking Our Lives Back of Michigan, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to assisting women and families affected by cancer.

Additionally, this anthology has sparked the creation of:

Beyond the Bell: A Survivorship Circle

A monthly wellness and advocacy space for Black women navigating life during and after cancer.

Because treatment may end — but community should not.

Recognition

Black Women Surviving Survivorship has achieved:

  • #1 Amazon Best Seller – Breast Cancer eBooks

  • #1 New Release – Breast Cancer Paperback

  • Top 10 National Rankings across multiple categories

This milestone reflects the power of representation, community support, and authentic storytelling.
